DJ/Radio Producer-turned-Lawyer attempts to dress like a grown-up. Sometimes I comically fail. And I occasionally post fun stuff, like music videos, book-club reviews, or photos of beauty or oddity.
FYI: I was doing this entire blog from my Android phone, snatching moments out of my busy life for quick photos. But I hate auto-correct with a purple passion, so now I'm using the computer for most of the work. I am still using my phone for the photos, though. My photo sizes may be erratic, and the quality isn't stellar. I am not a professional blogger, and do not have time for lots of scenic poses with a great camera. I don't even own a great camera! However, I DO appreciate your continued feedback, even in the absence of photographic artistry.

Several "First Attempts" today!

I've been getting really ambitious lately, wardrobe-wise. The combination of blogging and reading other blogs led to this:

I'm not sure about the navy pants with this top and scarf, which are more cream and brown. I'm hoping the gray and pink in the scarf helped. And I felt weird wearing brown shoes with navy pants-- that's a "first". Verdict?

Let me break the top part down... First, I took the turtleneck everyone hated ("70s Show") and chopped off the neck, creating a rollneck long-sleeve tee:

I've had rollneck tees before and liked them, but I always bought them that way. Hubby asked how I got this cut so straight- "I took my time and paid attention". No sewing needed!

Next, I belted a scarf over it, safety-pinning once on each side, and once in the middle:

Never done that before, but I've seen it in other blogs. Obviously, I kept my jacket ON for the day! Belting over any top like that is also new to me.

Whoops! Didn't realize the front pin in the scarf showed until just now!

I safety-pinned the end of the belt so it wouldn't flop down. I've had this belt almost a year, and this is the first time I've found a use for it! I bought it before I realized that the beltloops on my brown pants were only in the front. Why do they do stupid stuff like that?

The earrings I WISH I had worn:

And the ones I ACTUALLY wore:

Oh well... next time. Still debating if I should use brown pants next time.

Top: VanHusen outlet
Jacket: Talbot's Petite
Pants: Lane Bryant
Shoes: Bass
Scarf: Rodin Art Museum in Paris, France
Belt: Target
Earrings worn: Gold Mine in Bath, NY
Earrings wished: Kalamazoo Institute of Art, Kalamazoo, MI

  1. That looks great! Love the belt and scarf combo and you did an excellent tailoring job on the top...very creative... I would never have thought of that. Brown or navy pants.. looks good whichever. Two thumbs up on the outfit.

  2. I like it! I tried belting a scarf the other week and just kind of felt like a lump. I think maybe your jacket is adding the structure that my knit cardi lacked?

I don't mind the blue pants.

  3. I really like this - one of your best outfits! The visual interest is all on the top half - some funky shoes would be cool with this - so I don't mind the navy pants, but I think brown (with some sort of texture to it) would look great.

  4. My style icon likes it! *happy dance* I know it sounds dorky, but I just love Sheila's style.

  5. I love that you modified the turtleneck - very creative. And belting your shirt under the blazer is a look I plan on shamelessly copying.

  9. I discovered your blog via Katy's friend fridays, and I have to say I love your blog tagline: because nobody wants their lawyer rocking the combat boots and concert T-shirts. it made me laugh... I'm probably the only person in the world who would be down with their laywer wearing that.

I like your outfit, the way you wear your scarf is very stylish and all the colours work together, the navy & brown included :)

  10. This is my favorite outfit you've ever worn on this blog!
I see absolutely nothing wrong with wearing navy and brown together. They're both neutrals, and go with anything and each other. I wear black and navy together all the time, too.
And the scarf/belt combo is perfection. It's one of my favorite looks and you pulled it off well.

  13. Hey Amy, Just love the scarf and belt idea. it is amazing to see how you put together those two. At first I thought the top was like that but when i noticed it again I realised it was put together. I may try doing that. Just love your creativity.
